Rest, Relax and Refuel

It's been a lovely day in Alba. Mick and I wanted to get up for 7am breakfast instead of a sleep in so we could farewell Tim, the lad from the UK who has made remarkable strides in regaining health and fitness since his bowel cancer surgery last year. After brekky I strolled around the town for some photos, got a haircut and made a couple of trips to the gelateria.
Down a busy alley and off a side street is this apartment block. I just liked the colours

Saturday morning markets meant big crowds, although you wouldn't guess from this photo outside one of the old churches in Alba

Inside a different church, this time the Chieso di San Domenico. Extensive restoration work is being undertaken and various sections are left as they were in past times.

This was the interior of the Chieso di San Domenico as recently as 1978

Around the corner is the Chieso di San Lorenzo...

...which is much more elaborate and well preserved inside

Lovely old buildings largely obscured by markets selling all sorts of junk.

Terry and Richard on errand for Dylan to purchase some more tyres. Richard contemplates hiding a couple of pairs of socks on the bill. The store is so tightly packed it's hard to move. It's apparently been in continuous operation for over a hundred years and some of the stuff looks like it may have been opening day specials: many outdated but completely new bikes that will never be sold.

Almost time to head back to the piazza for a beer and meet the newbies. I can smell the scent from roasting chestnuts wafting up past my balcony. Libby is back from the UK and Richard is a happy man because Libby has brought a new seat post collar for the Colnago with her. Ernesto would have a fit if he could have seen the radiator hose clamps holding the seat in place.
